Copper and Silver Love Bracelet

I watched a performance of "Stand Up" by Sugarland recently and during the performance saw banners with "Love" spelled out with the o as a peace sign. I thought it would make a great piece of jewelry. And so began my journey in metal work. I've done a few small things in metal, but this was a challenge to me - especially my limited soldering skills. Two of the pieces were done 3-4 times before I finally got it right...my solders were not taking on the peace sign or the "L". I think the crux of the problem was that these two pieces were not fitting properly to the copper before firing. I persevered and used a leather hammer to get the fit as close as possible at diffent points. Finally, sweet success. If you are considering metal work/soldering, be patient, read up on the technique you plan to use or take a class and learn from someone more experienced. Most importantly, don't be deterred. Just do it. For your enjoyment, I am also adding the link to see Sugarland perform "Stand Up"! You'll see one of those "love" banners at the end.

Peace Earrings and more...

I'm trying to catch up on loose ends - like finally putting my peace earrings on earwires!!!  I made some copper on brass and some brass on copper.  I think my personal preference is the copper on brass.   In addition, I had some crystal earrings I made some time ago that have been waiting for me to photograph and tag them for Artfire.   I hope to get them onto Artfire tonight or in the morning!

MORE WIRE AND LAMPWORK

I have spent the day creating some more wire and lampwork pieces, as well as two copper focals. One of the focals is a gift, and the others I plan to place on Artfire. It's been a wonderful creative day! And a very hot, muggy one as well!

WORK THIS WEEK....

I've been doing some new items this week - not yet posted on Artfire. I've been playing with metal and wire wrapping, and one new necklace with lampwork and seed beads. The metal piece is done with copper and aluminum. We'll see what tomorrow brings! Have a great week! :)))

July 31: p.s. I have reloaded the pictures for better viewing. Note that the lovely lampwork bead is by Shelly Beads. Her web site is listed to the right on my blog. I hope to get some of these items listed on my Arfire site today!

A JOURNEY IN METAL

I created this pendant a week or so ago while having morning coffee...I seem to be most inspired in the morning...anyhow, I wanted to string it and this is what I came up with. I really enjoy cutting the wire and making the chains myself - tedious, but it's a "feel good" when it's done. Now that I've gotten my tools, I hope to become more adventuresome.
